The Beetdiggers continue to be rooted in excellence, ranking among Utah’s top high schools.
All five of Canyons School District’s traditional high schools made the U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 “Best High Schools” list, chosen from a field of nearly 18,000 public high schools in America.
Boasting a graduation rate of 86 percent, Jordan High School ranked 18th in Salt Lake County, and 58th among 169 high schools in Utah, according to the magazine. Each of CSD’s high schools placed in the top 18 when compared with high schools across the Salt Lake valley.
The Beetdiggers are particularly strong in the college-readiness category with 76 percent of seniors scoring a three or higher on their AP exams.
“The strong showing of all of our high schools reflects the high expectations, strong support and opportunities that define a Canyons education,” said Canyons Superintendent Dr. Rick Robins. “We’re so proud of our students and grateful for the commitment of our staff and faculty.”
In rating schools, the report weighs six factors:
College Readiness – 30 percent
State Assessment Performance – 20 percent
State Assessment Proficiency – 20 percent
Underserved Student Performance – 10 percent
College Curriculum Breadth – 10 percent
Graduation Rate – 10 percent
In calculating test scores, the magazine looks at the share of each school’s students who are proficient or above proficient in their math and reading and language arts assessments. “In other words,” as explained in the methodology, “the top-ranked schools are all high-achieving.”
U.S. News & World Report rates Utah the “best state” in the country based on its high scores in education, the economy, infrastructure, and fiscal stability. In education, Utah ranks No. 4 nationally based on the performance of its K12 schools and higher education system.
“Public schools are the schools of choice in Utah and the bedrock of a strong economy,” Robins said.
