November Minutes:
Motion to approve: Vickie Hulderson
2nd by Doug Jenson
Kelcey:
Finance/Budgets moved to Q
- Reviewed CSIP goals and how funded – and how/where to find them on the website
- Currently have 6 AVID classes – increasing engagement and participation
- Isaac Z reminded to check for any amendments to the budgets/CSIP
- Soter leaving but De Azevedo (replacement) can’t teach 7 periods – could recoup 0.625 FTE
EWS Data review – Q2 updates
- Terri Culberson – asked about 3+ Fs data… seems high. What are we doing to help failing students. Also – attendance seems to struggle during weeks of “nothing” at the end of the quarter.
- Kelcey: Extended home APP all week, to allow more time for remediation, getting caught up, etc.
- Need for students and teachers to NOT wait until the end of the quarter to work on grades
- Reviewed RTI percentages – Tier III (1-5%) does NOT match our chronically absent numbers (approx. 40%)
- Really high absence numbers yesterday – might have been a glitch? Number was 1063 absent 1 or more periods on 1.13.26
- Think ahead re possible interventions for academics/attendance/etc. (example: give out free tickets to a dance for good attendance)
- Discussion around potential changes for next year
- Keep incentivizing grades and attendance, more taco truck type? Lower the threshold for rewards?
- Hyer: ML population specific, literacy aide information. can run more effective Lit class with the aide present. On days without the aide, the class must be more simplified/pared down, which is much less effective. Esp in Literacy.
- Brandie: added info abt working with ML students in non-literacy classes
- Vickie Hulderson: ESL TA option?
- MJ: It’s offered on the card, but students haven’t been requesting it
- Disaggregate attendance data to determine where to focus interventions, budget, etc.
- More info/PR re Work Release, esp for chronic absenteeism due to work, etc.
MJ:
Schedule changes: 400+ for S2
- Always hear that students didn’t know about the window being open… any suggestions?
- Isaac Z: Also email, for those not on ParentSquare (Kelcey approved using Skylerts)
Upcoming events: Advanced Academics, 8th grade CTE Tours, Digger Fair, 9th grade Great Start awards for Q2, deficiency letters, etc.
Needs Assessment coming up, more info to follow
Other Items/Open Discussion:
Brandie: ACT prep has started
Terri: how’s the construction going?
Kelcey: Still on track for July 1. Bathrooms in the school are done. Auditorium will start end of May. Should be finalizing about the same time as fieldhouse, etc.
Kelcey: Safety Plan has been approved by district (turf on infield for baseball – not softball – and adding stadium lighting for baseball and softball fields). Parking lot lighting will be re-done.
Terri: could we make the softball field equitable to the baseball field? Leveling, cover for the field, turf? Loving having bathrooms!
Terri: how is CCHS’s fieldhouse already done? Per KK – CC’s funding was all done through bid pack 1, JHS’s funding was pushed to bid pack 2 so ours started later.
Kelcey: current bell schedule. Do we want to look at adjusting? Hall passes – passing periods longer (10 mins) with limited access to hall passes? Would only reduce instruction time by about 4 minutes. Currently 78 mins, would likely move to 74 mins.
- Vickie H: Would love to know what the teachers think about less instruction time, longer passing periods, etc.
- Consensus: YES, interested in looking into the bell schedule and possible adjustments. Start at same time, longer passing time, same time getting out. Hopefully all classes on a :00 or :05 end time. Add 7:15-7:40 as Digger Time (or some other name).
- Hyer: could we find data on schools that are using a 10-min passing period?
- Isaac: Stanford study indicated that longer passing periods reduce transition fatigue, esp w rising ADHD population
