Notes & Agenda
1.  Welcome Rebekah Cowdell

2.  Review and Approval of Rebekah Cowdell November Meeting Minutes
          • Motion by DH to approve, seconded by TB
          • Motion to approve passes

3.  Review/Updates: Dr. Eschler
          • a. Budgets
                  o  On pace to spend the approved budget from last year.
                  o  2 adjustments that were in plan:
                            ■  We will have money to hire an ML Instructional Aide for rest of the school year
                            ■  Environmental Science CE section will be added.
          • b. Data Review
                  o Goal: Increase graduation rate by at least 1% – this goal was met; the rate rose from 86% to 87%
                  o Other areas of improvement discussed from agenda
                  o Goal #2: We met the goal of increasing surveyed students reporting they had a positive connection with an adult in the building from 87.1% to 91.5%
          • c. Land Trust Plan
                  o We will solicit feedback from JHS BLT.
                  o  sec needs to be prepared with input as well, budget should be around $500k
                  o  Items to consider
                         ■  JHS is in TSI status for ML which is about 10-13% of our student population
                         ■  JHS is anticipated to lose FTE for the coming school year based on declining enrollment
                  o Question from DH – how will the new Step 2 the U program be funded? BE: District has not asked for Land Trust money and will cover costs.
                  o Question from PD – how can we better target the ML population via conventional communication etc.?
                  o Discussion about Math I Lab and how that can possibly affect FTE issues and CE/AP course offerings.
                         ■  Should we continue to fund 10 sections of this
                             • It costs FTE and electives for students.
                             • Perhaps offer as a support/intervention only.
                             • Offer Math 1 / 2 Lab combined? o      Other programs/initiatives/systems
                         ■   AVID
                         ■   JROTC (Navy) Cadet Core
                  o Question from DH: would Step 2 the U possibly deter students from taking AP courses? Dr. Eschler said Alta’s data suggests that it was the reverse; CE/AP
                      numbers increased.
                  o Question from DH: what talking points can we have for parents (such as sec members) to share with others?
                         ■  Video spotlights are coming out produced from the district.
                         ■  Sandy Journal
                         ■  Lack of course offerings at feeder schools are negatively impacting JHS enrollment
                         ■  Website issues discussion

                   o 5-year plan, facility improvement discussion
                         ■   Fieldhouse / Indoor Practice Facility
