Advisory Update                                                                          Wendy and Bruce
APP – Academic Prep Period
Two goals: a. time for students to work on academics
                    b. connect with an adult

School board is looking at adopting an early out or late start consistent throughout the district at all levels.
This would give singletons time to meet with other teachers in the district
Early out may have some issues
If you have preferences more information can be given so you can contact your board member(s)
Data on D’s and F’s: get to %75 of students on track
Reduce number of students who are not online for graduation as seniors
Move school out of TSI (SpEd, ELA, and African American) This year’s data will not be used. Jordan will be in this for at least 2 years – we are very close

Every school does have ELL and SpEd. Some areas have more newcomers
Jordan has many permit students who come here for a variety of reasons
Refugees begin shadowing other students to start seeing the school and
Newcomer class to help with language acquisition

Lack of investment in education from the state for some time. Now we’re trying to have a balance in how we support schools
There is a grant to help teachers with some of this in helping these students. Scaffolds will be helpful across the board.
Is the WIDIA score reflective of what the students can do?
Some students had backgrounds that have affected their desire to learn

Included: Bell Schedule, roles: administrators, counselors, teachers, students. parents
Will receive .25 elective credit. P/F
Could affect eligibility for athletes. Coaches on board with this; will help                    with staying eligible.
Parents will be able to track attendance during APP.
Canvas will still be an expectation

Concern: CTEC students – how will this affect them –
Teachers will still be available before and after school.

Have student govt reach out to CTEC students to see how they can help                    with connecting these students to the school

COVID has opened up the classroom to parents
