American Legion Auxiliary Boys State and Girls State are nonpartisan programs that teaches young men and women responsible citizenship and love for Country. High school juniors spend an intensive week of study, working together as self-governing citizens at Auxiliary-sponsored Boys and Girls State programs in every state. Participants learn how to participate in the functioning of their state’s government in preparation for their future roles as responsible adult citizens. Two boys and two girls are selected from each State program to attend Boys and Girls Nation, a national government training program. Nation “senators” meet for a week in Washington, D.C., where they run for political office, campaign for the passage of legislation and possibly meet with state Representatives and Senators. Capping off the week of Nation is oftentimes a meeting with the President of the United States at the White House. Participants earn 3 college credits. More information can be found HERE for Boys State and HERE for Girls State

Sandy City Youth Council and Youth Court

The Sandy Youth City Council is a group of high school students throughout Sandy that participates in political, social and humanitarian activities. Their goal is to serve the community as well as learn about government and have fun doing it.

Applications are accepted year round. For application and information, visit the Sandy City Youth Council website

Youth Court is an excellent opportunity to learn about the criminal justice and legal systems, serve your community, as well as providing members of the panel leadership opportunities. Youth Court may count for school credit (arranged by the student and their counselor). Youth Court service is an excellent addition to a resume for a career or college applications. We will also provide any member of Youth Court a letter of recommendation.

Applications are accepted in April for the following school year. For application and information, visit the Sandy City Youth Court website.
